Iron Man 3 marks the first time Robert Downey, Jr. has played Tony Stark/Iron Man in two of the main series films. He had last played Stark in 2008's Iron Man, which was critically panned. By August 2012, filming of Iron Man 3 began in Wilmington, North Carolina. On August 30, 2012, the film's official website announced that filming was taking place at the Soundstage 19 at Wilmington's Morgan Hill Park in Wilmington. In July 2012, Marvel Studios began shooting Iron Man 3 in Michigan, where the production used a large portion of the Iron Man 3 Global Production Studio in Dearborn, which is now the largest sound stage in the world and the largest ever to be built in the U.S. and the first in the country to be built specifically for motion picture production. The production also utilized the Iron Man 3 Global Studios in Pontiac, Chicago, and Pinewood Toronto Studios in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as well as the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank, California.
